The practice of whaling in South Africa gained momentum at the start of the 19th century and ended in 1975. By the mid-1960s, South Africa had depleted their population of Fin Whales, and subsequently those of Sperm and Sei Whales, and had to resort to hunting the small and less-profitable Minke Whale continued to be caught and brought to the Durban whaling station from 1968 until 1975. South Africa comprehensively banned whaling in 1979.

Humpback Whales Mom and Calf
It was one of those moments we wait for to get nice and close to them while they are logging on the surface and its taken almost 10 years, I have loads of other photos with Whales but these are some of my best, Humpback Whales come to our waters from the
Antarctica in the Winter from, May to November to have their
kids, allowing the kids to get their body fat before they head
back to the Antarctica cold waters, Humpback whales were first protected
as endangered animals in 1966. Currently, it is believed 60000 to 80,000 humpback whales are
left or about 40 percent of their original population, Rocky Bay
also use to be a Whaling Station, We much more coming through
our waters now and they have also been traveling in bigger Pods
which is great to see, it is also only the Males the sing and
they have 5 different notes, it is just so great to see them
breaching and playing in our waters this time of the year very
blessed,
